Total Time 20 minutes mins
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 6 slices American cheese
- 2 large heads iceberg or romaine lettuce rinsed & dried
- 2 tomatoes thinly sliced
- Small red onion thinly sliced
Spread:
- ¼ cup light mayo
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon dill pickle relish
- Dash of salt & pepper
In bowl, combine ground beef, seasoned salt, black pepper, and oregano. Form into 6 patties.
Heat grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook patties approx. 4 minutes on each side (or to your desired doneness).
During last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of American cheese so it melts.
Prepare spread: mix light mayo, ketchup, dill pickle relish, salt & pepper.
Assemble wraps: place each burger patty on a large lettuce leaf, add spread, tomato slice, red onion, then wrap lettuce over top.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
-
Pick sturdy lettuce leaves; iceberg or romaine work well to support the burger.
-
Don’t overcook beef for moisture; cheeseburger flavor often comes from juiciness.
-
Let cheese melt slightly but don’t burn.
-
Spread can be made ahead and refrigerated.
-
Enjoy immediately so lettuce remains crisp.
