Ingredients
  

For the Brownies:

  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream for folding into mousse

For the Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Garnish:

  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder
  • Fresh berries optional

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Brownies

  • Bake the Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions. Add chocolate chips if desired for extra richness. Bake and let cool completely.
  • Cut into Pieces: Once cooled, cut the brownies into small cubes.

Step 2: Make the Chocolate Mousse

  • Melt the Chocolate: In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped chocolate and butter over a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar. Gradually add the melted chocolate, whisking constantly.
  • Whip the Cream: In another bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until fully combined. Set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Whipped Cream

  • Whip the Cream: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until stiff peaks form.

Step 4: Assemble the Trifle

  • Layer the Ingredients: In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, begin by adding a layer of brownie cubes.
  • Add Mousse Layer: Spoon a generous layer of chocolate mousse over the brownies.
  • Add Whipped Cream Layer: Add a layer of whipped cream over the mousse.
  • Repeat Layers: Repeat the layers until the dish is filled, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Garnish: Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder and optional fresh berries.
