Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 10 oz bag mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups crisp rice cereal
  • Pastel M&M’s or candies for topping

Instructions

  • In a large pan over low heat, melt the butter and mini marshmallows together, stirring frequently until smooth.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
  • Add the cereal one cup at a time, stirring after each addition until fully coated.
  • Transfer the mixture into a buttered 9×13-inch pan.
  • Gently press the mixture evenly into the pan without packing it too tightly.
  • While still slightly warm, press the candies into the top.
  • Refrigerate until firm.
  • Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Grease your spatula or hands to prevent sticking when pressing the mixture.
Do not press too firmly to keep the treats soft and chewy.
Use fresh marshmallows for the best texture.
Add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness if desired.
Mix in some candies instead of just topping for extra texture.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Avoid overcooking the marshmallows to prevent hard treats.
