Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips divided
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a pie plate or a 9-inch springform pan and set aside.
  • In a heat-safe bowl, melt the butter with 2 cups of the chocolate chips until smooth. Use a double boiler or microwave at 50 percent power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. Let cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla on medium-high speed for about 3 minutes, until pale and fluffy.
  • Slowly mix in the cooled melted chocolate until fully incorporated.
  • Gently fold in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is puffed but still soft.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool completely before slicing.
  • Serve plain or topped with warm hot fudge.
