The BEST Big and Chewy Oatmeal Cookies – These Big and Chewy Oatmeal Cookies are everything you are looking for in a cookie – easy, chewy, extra big, and packed with delicious add-ins.


Servings: 8 cookies


  • 1/2cup butterroom temperature
  • 1/2cup Golden Barrel Organic Brown Sugar
  • 1/4cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1tbsp Golden Barrel Blackstap Molasses
  • 3/4cup flour
  • 1 1/2cup rolled oats
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2tsp baking soda
  • 1/2tsp salt
  • 2tsp cornstarch
  • 3/4cup dried cherries
  • 1/2cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2cup dark chocolate chips



  1. Preheat the oven to 350° and line 2 sheet trays with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour, oats, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and cornstarch. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, white sugar, egg and molasses. Stir until completely smooth. Add in the dry mixture and stir until evenly mixed. Add in the cherries, walnuts, and chocolate chips and mix in.
  4. Portion cookie dough into 1/3 cup balls and roll in between palms to make round. It will make exactly 8 cookies.
  5. Cook 4 on a tray, but only 1 tray at a time. Space evenly and bake for 15 minutes. Press down lightly on the cookies and bake for another 3-5 minutes. Let cool and store in an airtight container.

  1. Could this recipe be doubled or tripled and kept in the fridge for baking at later times?
    If so what changes, if any, are needed? TY

  2. My 2nd batch experience diif from 1st, but changed things up. Increased add-ins by 1/4c & dumped in about 1/3c of walnuts sitting in a bag. Used a muffin scoop & got 12 cookies. Had to bake for 18 min & cool for 5 before setting off to cool completely. They’re good, but more soft than chewy, but in a goid way. Next time I may use 1c of flour to see effects. Great recipe for someone living alone that doesn’t need a bunch of yummy goodies around 😉
